We have talked a lot about
Lugansk City, its conveniences, its conveyances and most importantly about its
state University. But in this last post about Lugansk, I would like to sum it
all up by describing, how it really feels like living in Lugansk, being in a
city so diverse, a city that literally makes you feel at home away from your
home.. how? Well, for that you need to experience this city. To be honest, it
should be in your bucket list of places that you should visit.
Lugansk is like no
other city in Ukraine given her uniqueness. Waking up every morning gives you
the distinct feel of tranquility that you would not expect from a city, yet it
has all the aspects to live up to its name as a cosmopolitan city. The skyline
is not impeded by multiple high rises which gives you an unobstructed view of
the deep blue European sky.
But still what are the
pros and cons of living in a city like Lugansk, there has to be some. Every
city has it and Lugansk is no exception either.
Starting with the
cons...
CONS
1.Non hurried life
style, if you are an adrenalin junkie, you would probably find this city to be
too slow for your taste, you shall probably wonder, why aren’t people elbowing
each other out of their way.
2.Lack of too many
cars and traffic. Well if you thrive on carbon monoxide poisoning (one of those
big city fellahs), you would find it hard to breathe in the fresh air :P
3.Not many
skyscrapers. If you are one of those people who judge a city by its sheer
number of bird killing skyscraping piers, you would probably be disappointed and
search for a tower tall enough to jump off (in case you find one L )
4.The size of the
city is not really very big, you can traverse the entire length in a few hours,
so if you like exploring cities, its nooks and crannies, you won’t have so much
to explore that would take you months.
5. This city tends
to get cold during the winter, yeah when I say cold, I MEAN COLD.. COLDY COLD..
VERY COLD.. (whoa !! don’t even think about Siberia, dude !! come on ! put a
reign on your imagination over there!! ) but yeah, temperature may plummet down
to as low as -20’C .. so if you are not a cold climate person, you perhaps
might wanna rethink visiting this city during winter.
6.The girls….happen
to be one of the best looking in the world, if you crash into a tree or fall in
a bin while being distracted by a ravishing Ukrainian
beauty passing you by, yeah that’s your responsibility.
7.People here
(specially guys) are let’s just say, quite a looker.. and they tend to keep in
shape. So the ones among us (who are not really acquainted to the term “working
out”, might feel a bit threatened in the appearance department, BUT you do not
need to worry, there are scores of gyms available here at very nominal price
with state of the art equipments, all you have to do is drip some sweat :D
8.Last but not the
least, if you are a street smart, self-vigilante type, you will probably not
get much of the street action, which involves beating up goons (spiderman
type), saving damsel in distress (superman type or Casanova,, choose your
pick), or retaliating thugs (batman type), yeah that’s not gonna happen, the
crime rate in this city runs in negative, sad isn’t it. :P
So, yeah after those
horrible cons…. lets talk about some positive points, so well meant pros..
PROS
1.The people here
are really friendly, you will often find old grannies offering you food and
even tucking in your scarf because they feel you are not warm enough.
Solidarity is something this city will offer you before anything else.
2. There is an ATM
or a Bank at every block, no more than 300 meters from each other, so in case
you are in need of some cash, all you have to do is show up at the nearest ATM
3.The city is well
planned so getting lost is very difficult even for the most directionally
challenged.
4.This city grows
on you, makes you feel at home even when you don’t want to associate yourself
with it. You might feel that you are a foreigner and would not like to bond,
but it expects you to give it a try. Try the food, the local cuisines, step at
the beat of the Sunday Evening Ball at the parks, talk to the people.
Lugansk,
a city by her own right, a jewel among the cities in Ukraine, boasts of a
culture that is mostly maternal. This city smiles with you, it cries with you.
You let her in and she would lead you into her heart. The vista will remind you
of Europe in her best wilderness, her unkempt childlike self. This city is
vibrant; it thrives on your happiness because your mere presence makes her
happy. She is always on her toes, ready to help if ever you need any, all you
need to do is holler.
It
is difficult judging a city, because what are the yardsticks? Size, population,
income, amenities? But then where does the heart of a city lie? Is it not
within the heart of her citizens? Are not the citizens the real identity of a
city? When a city like Lugansk breathes, speaks, talks, comforts, cajoles, supports,
nurtures and loves you unconditionally, do you have a choice other than loving
it? Summing this city up has been my hardest job ever because how can you sum
something up in a few words, when the city completes your identity. Wanna see
what I am really talking about ????
